The Simpson Desert is a vast, barren expanse of endless sand and shifting dunes that ripple across the landscape, creating a beautiful yet serene terrain. This remote corner of Australia is almost inhospitable to most creatures, but it is home to some of the country’s most resilient and adaptable reptiles and scavengers. Located in the heart of Australia, the Simpson Desert is known for its extreme temperatures, which can soar above 50 degrees Celsius during peak summer, making it one of the hottest regions in the country.
The desert’s sparse rainfall—often just 5 inches or less annually—results in a parched and rugged landscape, a true reflection of Australia’s ability to sustain some of the harshest environments on Earth. The beauty of this land lies in its solitude, with wide, empty spaces that stretch endlessly into the horizon.
Tourism in the Simpson Desert began in the 1960s, and since then, it has become a must-visit destination for Australia’s adventurous 4WD community. The desert is now home to multiple popular tracks and paths, etched into the landscape by those seeking to explore its remote beauty. Iconic attractions like Rainbow Valley and Chambers Pillar draw visitors from across the globe, offering breathtaking views of nature’s incredible geological formations.
In addition to its natural beauty, the Simpson Desert is also a place of cultural significance. The Arrernte people, the traditional owners of the region, have deep connections to the land, and their rich cultural heritage is preserved through various programs. Visitors can learn about Aboriginal culture and history through educational experiences, and explore the art of the region by visiting local Aboriginal communities. One such destination is the Keringke Arts Aboriginal Art Centre, located east of Alice Springs. Here, visitors can observe live painting sessions, watching artists create works that reflect the traditions and stories of their people.
The Simpson Desert is a place that challenges both the body and the spirit. Its vastness and isolation are awe-inspiring, yet it is a land that has been shaped and sustained by its people, its creatures, and its remarkable resilience to the harshest conditions.
In this collection, we chose to represent three biomes—each a perfect embodiment of the vast and diverse landscapes that define our home, Australia. Though these biomes differ greatly in form, they often intertwine across the land, creating a fascinating natural gradient. From the lush, green serenity of the Daintree Rainforest, to the vibrant, blue aquatic worlds of the Great Barrier Reef, and the parched, red dunes of the Simpson Desert, each environment has been transformed into an iconic timepiece. Featuring a sleek gunmetal case and matching rubber strap, these watches highlight eye-catching dials that capture the essence of their respective biomes. Together, they form a truly unique collection that is calling your name.
